Our Bats and Trees aerial inspection course is a multi-discipline course aimed at both arborists and ecologists, who hold relevant tree climbing and aerial rescue qualifications and public liability insurance. This course will expand your knowledge of the habitats created within trees for our native bat species and the legislation which ensures their protection.
The course will begin as a theory session in the classroom and lead to a practical session within a woodland, where you will have the opportunity to undertake aerial tree surveys. The Course is lead by our in house Lantra instructor Adam Young who will guide you through the process of aerial tree inspections, and instruct on a range of climbing techniques, thus ensuring you are undertaking aerial tree inspections in a confident, safe and efficient manner.
The course will include the following topics:
- Legislation for the native bat species
- Trees as a habitat
- Potential roost features
- Tree morphology and its association with PRFs
- Tree dependant bat species
- Bat roost types
- Native bat species habitat
- Woodland visual tree assessment
- Woodland tree inspection with Endoscope
- Tree climbing equipment and methodology
- Work positioning within the tree
- Accessing a tree
- VTA (Visual Tree Assessment)
Upon completion of the Bat and trees aerial inspection course the candidates will be provided with a CPD certificate.
Please note: Although the course will give the candidates the opportunity to use an endoscope to undertake internal inspections of potential tree roosts, it will not permit the use of endoscopes without a level 2 bat licence outside of the course structure.
