“Working with Adam in arboriculture there were many potential hazards on every work site on a daily basis. Although it was Adam’s job to prepare method statements and site-specific risk assessments for his work sites, which he always did without issue, it was Adam’s general approach to risk management that made his works sites so safe. I have been on sites where risk assessments are completed as a box ticking exercise and do not go far enough in real terms. Adam would review the work environment throughout the day, taking into account changes on the site, changes in weather, even changes in personnel during the day and would make changes to the working method accordingly. Clients that insisted on the very highest standard of risk management were always very content with the way Adam ran his sites and regularly commented as such.
I am very aware of Adam’s interest in the environment and his enthusiasm for the care of the environment. I was always very impressed when after a hard weeks work Adam would volunteer, on a weekend, to help educate the public in bats, trees and woodlands. Adam has very good communication skills and has the ability to engage people in his passion for bats and the environment. Adams multi-discipline background and varied skill set must be very advantageous when it comes to minimising the environmental impact on his work sites. Social media is not a platform on which I am comfortable, but I am sure that Adam will be able to communicate his passion for bats and trees over social media and promote environmental awareness to a wider audience.
I know Adam to have a wealth of experience in leading teams of highly skilled workers on extremely challenging and varied work sites. Adam always took the approach that he should lead by example, something that was appreciated by those in his team, and always took the time to engage with team members to make sure they were happy and understood the work method. Adam’s leadership created lasting bonds with his team that endure beyond the workplace. I believe it was Adams willingness to put himself at the forefront of any work site and his ability to communicate with members of this team that maintained his successful standing as a team leader for many years.”
